Preventive maintenance of electronic equipment. Exemple cleaning your PS4 Slim.

 


Today I’m going to teach you how important is the preventive maintenance and show the science behind this.

We all know that device often doesn’t work correctly and is the time to check if there are something that we can do to avoid the completely lost of your device.

A common example that I can show is the preventive cleaning of your ps4 oh your computer fan. Inside these devices we found a piece of metal with a fan nearby, this piece of metal is called as heatsink and his function is retiring the heat of the CPU using the principle of Thermal conduction. The fan who is located nearby the heatsink is responsible for retire the hot air provided by the heatsink using the principle of force convection to remove the hot air from your device.

Passed sometime of use these devices become so dirty and both heatsink and the fan become inefficiently and its dangerous to lose you device by overheating.

On PS4 you can hear the fan noise loud trying to exhaust all the heat air but the dusty is impeding.

Get to work.

You will need some tools:

1 screw driver Torx T8 with hole;

1 Brush;

1 Screw driver Philips;

1 Hairdryer at cold temperature.

First step you need to open you PS4 Using your own hands. Following the image bellow.


The top cover of you ps4 is easy to pull over, you have to pull up by the edges like the image.


The next step is remove the shield up on you power supply using the screwdriver T8.

Note that there are 3 screws and one is smaller than the others. Pay attention to this when assembling.

Next step you have to remove all visible screw on you front, and remove the shield cover plate.



Now it's time to clean using the brush and the hairdryer at cold temperature.
Pay attention on the heatsink and the fan.

After clear all the dust you just have to assembly you ps4 Slim and enjoy the ps4 without a loud fan noise.

Science:

These components that we work with today are important for all devices that use CPU and other devices.
They use the 3 principles of heat transfer.

Thermal conduction ; Radiation; and Convection to exhaust the heat from the CPU.

Thermal conduction occur between two solids or a solid and a stationary fluid.
Thermal conduction is used between the CPU and the heatsink, the heatsink is usually made of metal like copper. Copper has a very good heat transfer coefficient.

Convection is when heat is carried by a solid and a fluid. Forced convection when some fluid is forced between a solid to receive heat. The fan uses forced convection to exhaust the hot air that is inside the console and the heatsink.

In thermal irradiation, this process occurs through the emission of electromagnetic waves, since all bodies that are at temperatures above absolute zero emit thermal radiation.
For this reason, the console has an aluminum cover to prevent heat from melting the plastic cover.

All this knowledge is used by engineers to develop new products and new fans and new heatsink material to build new consoles, new, more powerful computers that need to exhaust a lot of heat. This is science and it helps us improve our lives with technology
